We are always here for you and the easiest way to reach us is through Airbnb Messenger. It is the most reliable option inside Yosemite because you can see immediately that your message was delivered, and we receive instant notifications in multiple ways. This ensures we never miss your note and can respond quickly.
Cell service in Yosemite West is limited and available mostly through Verizon, with only spotty coverage in other areas of the park. Because of this, text messages and phone calls may not always go through right away.
If you prefer to call, please send us a quick text first with your name and check-in date so we can locate your reservation and call you back as soon as we have reception.
Welcome to Yosemite West, a quiet mountaintop community located inside Yosemite National Park. Staying here means something rare in Yosemite: peaceful forest surroundings, cooler summer temperatures, snowy winter magic, and no daily gate lines. Your park entrance is guaranteed throughout your stay; no separate day-use reservation is required.
Yosemite West sits at about 6000 feet elevation. Summer days run pleasantly cooler than the Valley, while winter brings real Sierra snow. From December through March, we strongly recommend an AWD or 4x4 vehicle to reduce dependence on snow chains during storms.
The location is one of the biggest advantages of staying here. Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point Road, Tunnel View, and Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias are all within a short and scenic drive. In winter, we are the closest lodging to Badger Pass, which offers cross-country skiing, downhill runs, snowboard terrain features, tubing, equipment rentals, and family lessons. When staying in Yosemite West, you are as close as possible to these major park highlights while enjoying the serenity of a forest neighborhood.
Right from the village, guests enjoy peaceful walks and views. A local favorite is Henness Ridge Fire Lookout, a historic National Park Service rustic-style structure with sweeping views and a beautiful forest path leading up. Wildlife sightings are common here — deer, coyote, owls, woodpeckers (including the striking pileated woodpecker) and, if you are lucky, a bear at a safe distance.
Yosemite West is rural and intentionally free of stores or restaurants. This keeps the area quiet and uncrowded, but it also means planning ahead. Groceries are available at the Village Store in Yosemite Valley, and the nearest gas station is in Wawona. Cellular service is extremely limited (Verizon has the best chance), while Wi-Fi at the property works well but, as anywhere in the mountains, may slow during peak evening hours.
Rain or shine, Yosemite West offers something special: quiet mornings, starry nights, forest air, and the ability to explore Yosemite without the usual crowds and commute. At the end of the day, you return to tranquility instead of traffic — a true Yosemite experience.
Staying inside Yosemite gives you a major advantage. You skip long entrance lines, avoid any required vehicle entry reservation, and wake up already in the mountains. Here’s everything you need to travel comfortably and confidently.
Park Entrance & Reservations:
Because your lodging is inside Yosemite National Park, you do not need a separate vehicle entry reservation. At the entrance gate, simply show your photo ID and your booking will be confirmed under your name. Each vehicle pays the standard $35/car entrance fee.
Transportation:
A personal vehicle is required in Yosemite West. There are no YARTS buses, Uber, Lyft, or taxi service in our neighborhood. Once you drive into Yosemite Valley, you may park your car and use the free Valley shuttle to reach many popular viewpoints and trailheads.
Groceries and Supplies:
Please bring groceries before entering the park. Full grocery stores are located in Oakhurst (Hwy 41), Mariposa (Hwy 140), Oakdale (Hwy 120 west), and Lee Vining (Hwy 120 east, summer only). Two small convenience stores are located about 25 minutes from Yosemite West, but they have limited selection.
Driving and Road Conditions:
Mountain roads can change quickly due to weather and elevation. For updated conditions, please check:
California Highway Conditions: 1-800-427-ROAD
Yosemite Park Roads: 1-209-372-O2OO
Winter Driving and Chains:
From November through March (and sometimes October or April), all vehicles must carry tire chains—even AWD and 4WD. Rangers frequently set up chain checkpoints, and vehicles without chains are turned around until chains are purchased and installed.
To make winter travel easier and reduce how often you need to put chains on, we strongly recommend choosing an AWD or 4x4 vehicle whenever possible. These vehicles handle mountain roads more comfortably, especially in snowy or icy conditions.
Nearby Walks and Trails:
From Yosemite West, you can enjoy quiet walks right from the neighborhood, including the Henness Ridge Fire Lookout and the Deer Camp Road Trail. Yosemite Valley, Wawona, and Glacier Point Road are short, scenic drives from the property.
Park Entrance:
Your Yosemite park entry is guaranteed, even for same-day reservations. Present your photo ID at the gate, pay the standard $35 per-car entrance fee, and you will be able to enter the park without any additional steps.
Weather:
Yosemite enjoys mostly stable and beautiful weather, but conditions in the mountains can change quickly. Snow, rain, ice, wind or seasonal smoke are all possible at certain times.
Full Kitchen:
The kitchen includes a refrigerator, freezer, ice maker, induction stove with oven, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee machine. A propane BBQ grill is located on your private deck for outdoor cooking.
Mobile Communication:
Cell service in Yosemite West is very limited. Verizon and Sprint may work in a few spots. AT&T generally works only in Yosemite Valley.
Internet:
We provide unlimited Starlink internet. It is usually fast and reliable, with possible slower speeds during busy evening hours.
Entertainment:
You will have a 70-inch TV with Apple TV, a library of more than 50 included movies and series, plus access to HBO, Netflix, Hulu and Apple Arcade.
Cooling and Heating:
You will have full control of modern AC for both heating and cooling. A pellet stove is also available. A pellet stove is a clean, easy-to-use heater that burns small compressed wood pellets. It turns on with a simple switch and does not require managing firewood; we provide pellets for your convenience.
Breakfast:
A complimentary continental breakfast will be prepared in the fridge, including boiled eggs, yogurts, cheese, muffins, bagels, honey or jam and butter. If you would like a refill, simply send us a message on the evening of your arrival.
